That is why, when we tell people about our Study Buddy not having Wi-Fi, some are really surprised while teachers give a knowing nod and a smile.
You see, Wi-Fi mostly works at schools. If the IT (Information Technology) department had the right budget they had the opportunity to buy the right equipment with multi-antenna arrays, balanced access, and the right bandwidth. However, as more devices connect to the access points, you start experiencing spotty access, drops, and even disconnections.
But the biggest point is distractions.
Have you ever assigned anything to a student and caught them doing something else? Of course! It is human nature. And Wi-Fi access only makes it more complicated to control.
When we designed the Study Buddy We thought about the importance of concentrating on a specific task. Do one thing at a time. Do it well.
The device was designed to teach atomic lessons. Self-contained, with only one objective at a time. We purposefully restricted what students can do to one thing at a time. There are no distractions. There is no Wi-Fi. While you are studying, that is all you can do.
And we do it wonderfully if I say so myself.
Students feel engaged, progress at their own pace, repeat the lessons as many times as needed, and accomplish more than they thought possible. Of course, the results speak for themselves.
It is especially useful when there is no Wi-Fi to be had. Migrant students, low coverage areas, or correctional facilities. They all benefit from a device that has no external dependency to do its work.
